What does the count number actually mean?
Squares per inch. 14 count has 14 stitches to the inch; higher counts mean smaller stitches and a smaller, finer finished piece.
Which count should a beginner choose?
14 count - big enough holes to see comfortably, fine enough for good detail, and the count most patterns are written for. 11 count if your eyes prefer larger.
How much extra fabric do I need around a design?
Allow at least 5cm on every side for hooping and framing. Our cuts include generous margins, and the size guide does the sums for you.
